Asia tech news has produced various news items related to Vietnam, particularly highlighting the tremendous achievement of the Vietnam technology industry. Vietnam is becoming a promising technology economy. The Vietnam technology industry has performed exceptionally throughout 2025.

Vietnam’s digital technology market is expected to produce a total revenue of $198 billion by 2025, marking a 26% increase from the previous year, driven by the statistics released by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Export Performance Leads Growth

Electronics and hardware were also instrumental in achieving remarkable export results. Exports of hardware and electronics are projected to reach $178 billion annually, registering a growth of 35% compared to the previous year, thereby exceeding the set target by 12%. This also cements Vietnam’s position as an essential base for technology firms worldwide.

Major international companies are still expanding their businesses in Vietnam. Samsung, the suppliers of Apple products, and electronic manufacturers have substantial production bases spread across the country. These businesses indirectly provide jobs and develop technical capabilities among the local workforce.

The electronics industry also benefits from Vietnam’s strategic geographical positioning, favorable labor costs, as well as improving infrastructure. Presence of free trade agreements with major markets helps ease export restrictions while ensuring sustained growth.

E-Commerce Sector Surges

Vietnam’s digital economy posed an exemplary case of thriving in e-commerce. E-commerce revenue in Vietnam was estimated at $36 billion in 2025. It was triple the revenue realized in 2020. In 2020, the revenue was growing at the rate of 22-25%, placing Vietnam as one of the fastest-growing e-commerce hubs.

Moreover, online shopping, such as e-commerce, became popular across Vietnam’s cities and increasingly rural areas. The logistics infrastructure improved to allow for faster deliveries, even for rural customers. Payment systems also improved for convenient digital payment solutions for consumers without access to credit cards.

Young consumers influence the adoption of e-commerce, especially because of their mobile-first approach. The options provided by these platforms range from electronics to clothing to grocery items. The ability of sellers to use popular messaging apps to reach their customers gave social commerce much traction.

AI Investments Accelerate

Enterprises in Vietnam invest considerably in artificial intelligence technology. A $174 million AI center was launched by FPT Corporation. The company is planning to invest another $200 million in a high-tech manufacturing unit. This indicates that enterprises have high ambitions to develop technology competencies.

There are various applications of AI technology in different industries. Specifically, in financial services, artificial intelligence is being used to combat fraud and to provide customer service. Manufacturing facilities also use artificial intelligence technology to optimize production and predictive maintenance. Healthcare industries also use artificial intelligence technology to aid diagnosis.

Government support can be identified in its strategies, which promote AI development. Over 50,000 IT graduates per annum enter the labor force. These graduates have knowledge in AI, software development, cybersecurity, and blockchain technology. They act as human resources in the development of technology.

Vietnam is moving to establish a new growth model centred on science, innovation and digital transformation

Semiconductor Ambitions Grow

Vietnam has recognized the importance of the semiconductor industry; indeed, Vietnam seeks to develop the semiconductor industry as part of its strategic priority. Specific implementation of the “Strategy for Vietnam’s semiconductor industry development to 2030 with the vision to 2050,” as well as the issuance of the organization regulations and the establishment of the National Center for semiconductor chip prototyping support, has been cited as critical.

The current emphasis is on the assembly and testing of chips, which is a basic form of semiconductor manufacturing. This approach is pragmatic and can lay a foundational framework for further development while employers benefit from immediate employment. Accomplishing in these fields can lay the groundwork for further and more complex semiconductor manufacturing.

International partners demonstrate interest in potential Vietnamese semiconductor industry. Technology zones are established in Hanoi, as well as Ho Chi Minh City, which offer facilities for high-tech establishments. Government incentives offer opportunities with the goal of development.

Digital Transformation Challenges

Impressive achievements notwithstanding, the challenges remain. The digital economy in Vietnam in 2025 remained mainly oriented toward digitalizing processes that are already available, rather than fully shifting into new economic growth models. The Minister of Science and Technology explained: although the digital share of GDP grew qualitatively, local value creation was constrained by relying on foreign platforms.

Most small and medium enterprises are lagging in terms of digital adoption. This transformation barrier is due to limited resources and the lack of proper technical expertise to handle such transformation. The government is therefore taking initiatives to help SMEs become digital through shared facilities and training programs.

Competition for talent gets fierce as demand outpaces supply of skilled technology professionals. Companies continue to offer increasingly attractive packages to attract and retain qualified labor. Gradually, universities expand their technology programs, but graduation rates struggle to keep pace with demand generated by the industry.

A Technology Success Story

The digital technology achievements of Vietnam in 2025 show a successful transformation into a technology leader within the country’s region. The achievements, which include export and domestic market performances, provide a foundation for sustained development.

The challenges facing Vietnam include the development of talent, improvement of the enhancement of the creation of values, and the navigation of trade. Nevertheless, the capacity of the Vietnamese government to adapt and innovate guarantees the growth trajectory of the country. The economic value of the technology sector guarantees government support.
